About ZIP Code 15282

Duquesne University operates under dedicated ZIP code 15282 in Allegheny County's Bluff neighborhood in Pittsburgh's East End. Founded on October 1, 1878, by Father Joseph Strub and the Holy Ghost Fathers (Spiritans) who had been expelled from Germany during Bismarck's Kulturkampf, the school began with six faculty members and 40 students in rented space above a bakery on Wylie Avenue. The university established its current Bluff location in 1885 with the construction of "Old Main," then the highest point on the Pittsburgh skyline.

Duquesne became the first Catholic university-level institution in Pennsylvania in 1911, taking its current name to honor Marquis Duquesne, a French governor of New France. The 0.05-square-mile campus today comprises ten schools offering 189 academic programs at undergraduate through doctoral levels. It remains the only Spiritan institution of higher education in the world, hosting international students from more than 80 countries.
