Datasheer, L.L.C., dba ZIP-Codes.com

Who we are, in the words we would use on the phone.

Datasheer, L.L.C., operating under the domain zip-codes.com, is a data company with a specialized focus on postal system information and services. Founded in 2003, we help organizations use ZIP Code data for automation, marketing and verification.

We put an unusual amount of weight on support, because it is the part of this business that is easiest to get wrong and hardest to fake. Email is answered within 30 minutes during business hours, and the phone is answered by someone who works on the data rather than by a queue.

Our team brings a long run of experience in data management and programming. That combination — the postal domain knowledge and the engineering to keep it current every month — is what a customer is really buying, and it is why the same people who build the files are the ones who pick up when you call about them.

What we value

Eight of them, and they have been the same eight for a long time.

We also give away a good deal of what we know. The free ZIP Code database and the reference pages across this site are a genuine service in their own right — and the most honest sample of our work we can offer. If you have a suggestion for the site, send it to info@zip-codes.com.

How our data is different

Most sites hand you the Census figure and stop there. The number on its own does not tell you whether it is unusual.

So every figure we publish for a ZIP Code is also placed against its state and national counterparts, and the result of that comparison is stated in words rather than left for you to work out. That is what lets a page say a place is a female-majority area instead of printing two percentages and hoping you notice.

Seven bands, and an eighth class that is not one

A comparison lands in one of seven bands, measured as the distance in percentage points between this ZIP Code and the figure it is being compared to. “About the Same” is therefore a stated tolerance, not a judgment call.

  1. 1Much Lower
  2. 2Lower
  3. 3Slightly Lower
  4. 4About the Same
  5. 5Slightly Higher
  6. 6Higher
  7. 7Much Higher
← further below the comparison figure further above →
8. Not reliable — and deliberately off the scale above

The Census publishes a margin of error beside every American Community Survey estimate. When that margin is more than half the estimate itself, we draw no comparison at all and mark the figure unreliable instead. It is the one class whose job is to tell you not to use the number — which is why it does not sit on a scale of “how different”.

Band widths are set per metric rather than once for everything: income and employment use 1, 3 and 7 percentage points, while population shares use 2, 5 and 10. A one-point move is worth more in a labor force participation rate than it is in an age bracket, and the bands say so.

What that commits us to

Verified sourcing

Every figure is attributed — the 2020 Census DHC and the ongoing ACS are different things with different reliability, and the page says which one it is using.

Readable at a glance

Charts are drawn as SVG and tables are color-coded with tooltips, so the shape of the data arrives before the reading does.

Kept current

Postal data is rebuilt monthly and Census figures are refreshed as each release lands. A stale number is a wrong number.

Our 100% money-back guarantee

Thirty days. Unconditional. No questions.

Our 100% Money Back Guarantee

Plenty of companies claim to be the best; fewer will put a refund behind it. Since 2003 we have built a customer list running from Fortune 500 companies to individuals and small businesses. Where competitors offer email alone, we publish a phone number — 1-800-425-1169 — and answer it. We are not only a USPS licensee but a direct collaborator, and we license data back to the USPS. Quality and service come first here, and the guarantee is how we are willing to be held to that.

If the data turns out to be wrong for what you are building, tell us inside thirty days and we refund you in full. We would rather do that than have you stuck with a file that does not fit.

Ready to look at what we actually publish? Every product, priced, in one place.
