APO AA 34032 provides military postal service to the U.S. Embassy in La Paz, Bolivia, located on Avenida Arce 2780 in the administrative capital. La Paz is the world's highest capital city at approximately 3,640 meters (11,942 feet) elevation, which can affect personnel acclimation. The embassy operates under a Chargé d'Affaires since no ambassador has been exchanged since September 2008, when President Evo Morales expelled the U.S. Ambassador. Mail routes through the USPS Miami International Service Center.
The first U.S. diplomatic representative was appointed to Bolivia on January 3, 1849. Despite strained political relations, the embassy maintains essential consular services for American citizens and basic diplomatic functions. The embassy staff provides passport services, notarial services, and emergency assistance to U.S. citizens. Bolivia has a Consular Agency in Santa Cruz that handles some services for the eastern lowlands region.
Personnel sending mail should use the APO address format with the recipient's name followed by APO AA 34032. The embassy maintains limited programs compared to other regional posts due to the diplomatic constraints. American Citizen Services are available Monday through Thursday from 8:00am to 12:00pm by appointment. For emergencies, contact the embassy at +591-2-216-8000 during business hours or +591-2-216-8000 with the after-hours option. Delivery times may be extended due to logistical challenges at high altitude.
