Developer tools: Claude Code, Cursor, VS Code, CodexTen broad postal regions, numbered 0–9 from the Northeast to the West Coast.
The first digit of a ZIP Code represents a group of states. It is the first step in organizing routes for efficient mail delivery: the digits divide the country into ten broad postal regions (0–9) that move roughly from the Northeast (0XXXX) to the West Coast (9XXXX). Each region covers several states, so the first digit of a ZIP Code generally tells you which part of the country it is in.

Choose ZIP+4 of Address and enter the street address with its city and state, or its ZIP Code. The lookup matches it against USPS's ZIP+4 data and returns the address the way USPS writes it, with its ZIP+4, carrier route and type of delivery. The White House, 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW, comes back as Washington, DC 20500-0005. Include the apartment or suite number when there is one: in a large building, each floor or suite can have its own ZIP+4.
Because USPS and the map can disagree. USPS assigns every ZIP+4 a county, and those assignments are set by local post offices and are sometimes wrong. We also place the address itself inside the official county boundaries and show both when they differ. On Prudence Island, Rhode Island, USPS lists 837 Narragansett Ave in Bristol County, but the island is in Newport County. Systems built on USPS data will show Bristol.
Everything tied to that one spot. You get the census tract and block group the address sits in, each with its FIPS code, the congressional and state legislative districts, the school district, and the schools in the ZIP Code. The Neighborhood Profile then compares the people in the address's census tract with the whole ZIP Code, with margins of error, so you can see how a block differs from its ZIP Code.
No. The ZIP Code, City/State and Advanced Search boxes run the same search with different inputs, and all of them accept part of a ZIP Code or name. Enter 100 and you get the 122 ZIP Codes with those digits anywhere in them; add stars, as in 100**, for only the 52 that start with 100. Enter Springfield without a state and you get all 127 ZIP Codes in places with Springfield in the name, West Springfield included. Advanced Search combines boxes, such as Franklin in any Williamson County.
Choose My Location and your browser asks before it shares where you are. We use it only for this lookup. We find the nearest delivery address or street block, its ZIP Code and ZIP+4, and how far it is from your point, then show everything the address lookup shows for it, with both points on a map. You can also type any latitude and longitude, such as a spot you dropped a pin on.
Every ZIP Code that uses an area code, with its city, state and county, so you can see the area the area code reaches. Area code 907, for example, covers all of Alaska. Each area code also has its own page, like area code 212 for Manhattan, and each ZIP Code in the list links to its full profile.
Not every ZIP Code is a delivery area. Some serve only the PO Boxes at one post office, some belong to a single organization that gets a lot of mail, such as a university or government agency, and some serve military bases and ships overseas (APO, FPO and DPO). Search results mark each type, because these ZIP Codes have few or no residents and usually no area of their own.
Not on this site. Lookups here are free but have usage limits, shared by everyone on the same network. For a list, use the ZIP Codes API, which has batch lookups, or connect your AI assistant to our MCP server. To have every ZIP Code in your own system, get the ZIP Code Database.
ZIP Codes and ZIP+4 Codes are updated every month from USPS data, so new and retired codes show up soon after USPS makes the change. The Census figures are the latest five-year American Community Survey estimates, and each ZIP Code's page also has earlier years for comparison.
