Nixon sits on the western shore of Pyramid Lake, on the Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe reservation in northwestern Nevada. Of the 563 residents, 90% are Native American (507 people), making this one of Nevada's most concentrated tribal communities. The post office serves as the mail hub for a vast 107-square-mile territory.
This is a PO Box Only Zone. Street delivery doesn't exist anywhere in this ZIP code. Across 107 square miles, there are just 8 named streets (Basin Road, W Pyramid Lake Road, State Route 447, and a handful of residential lanes). The post office maintains 119 PO Boxes for 183 households, with some families driving considerable distances to collect mail.
Median age is 31.1 years. Households average 3.1 people, typical of multi-generational family structures common in tribal communities. Of the 201 total housing units, 183 are occupied, with 136 owner-occupied and 47 renter-occupied. Just 5 units are used seasonally.
The economy centers on public administration (25 workers) and transportation/warehousing (60 workers). Median household income is $65,833, above many rural Nevada communities. Educational attainment is low, with only 7.2% of adults holding bachelor's degrees. Median home values are $53,800, and median rent is $550 per month.
The Nixon post office has operated since before October 2004, when USPS tracking began. It's the only mail access point for this isolated reservation community. All mail must be addressed to PO Boxes. Rural routes (R001) and highway contract routes serve some outlying areas, but most residents rely on post office boxes.
Mailing addresses must use PO Box format:
