DPO AE 09829 historically served the U.S. Embassy in Khartoum, Sudan. Due to conflict in Sudan that erupted in April 2023, the U.S. Embassy suspended operations and evacuated personnel.
Sudan has experienced a complex diplomatic relationship with the United States over the decades, including periods of sanctions and eventual normalization. The embassy, when operational, provided consular services and supported bilateral programs.
The ongoing conflict between Sudanese military factions has made embassy operations impossible since 2023. American citizens in Sudan have been advised to depart, and consular services are being provided from neighboring countries.
While this DPO code remains in the USPS system, active mail service to Khartoum is suspended. Personnel who may have been associated with Sudan operations have been reassigned to other posts.

At the Gary Sinise Foundation, our mission is to serve our nation by honoring our defenders, veterans, first responders, their families, and those in need. Among its programs is the construction of specially adapted smart homes for severely wounded veterans that are provided mortgage-free.
